Academic Year
- Academic Year (fall and spring semesters) scholarship will be based on unmet financial need. Unmet financial need is defined as the cost of attendance minus the expected family contribution and all additional scholarships or grants from other sources.
- The student (in consultation with parents/guardians unless the student meets the independent student guidelines of the federal methodology) will be required to complete the federal FAFSA application to determine the expected family contribution. Complete the FAFSA application as soon as possible but no later than May 1, 2009.
Summer Internship Award
- Summer internships will cover the cost of summer internship tuition and fees.
- In addition, for internships without employer compensation or with compensation less than the average hourly internship pay rate, the internship will confer an award that lifts the student’s hourly pay on par with the defined hourly rate:
- For undergraduate internships, the defined hourly rate is: An average hourly pay rate of $12 per hour x 30 hours per week x 12 weeks ($4320); and
- For graduate internships, the defined hourly rate is: An average hourly pay rate of $15 per hour x 30 hours per week x 12 weeks ($5400).
Summer Internship Description
- Summer Internships are credit-bearing.
- The internship experience must be academically relevant, consistent with the student’s academic major program objectives, and build on the progress already achieved by the student toward those objectives.
- In order to ensure that internship experiences are meaningful, all internships will be developed closely with employers.
- Consistent with UB academic program practice, employers will be required to submit a detailed internship description including:
- Definable goals that correspond with learning objectives;
- Appropriate level of challenge relevant to a specific academic concentration; and
- Consistent, on-site supervision by a full-time professional employee with corresponding expertise.
- Student interns will follow a syllabus and will be required to complete defined assignments.
- Both the student and the employer will be required to submit evaluations to the UB Internship Coordinator at the conclusion of the internship.
